Sydney-based ceramicist Tara Burke has rallied her creative community to help make a difference in working towards racial equality. She has established the inaugural Potters in Protest event, happening this Sunday in Sydney.

‘I felt both devastated and frustrated by the senseless attacks on the Mosques in Christchurch,’ explained Tara, ‘a fundraiser to benefit an anti-racism charity felt like a good way to take this collective grief and try to do something productive with it’.

Teaming up with Gelato Messina, Tara reached out to makers across Australia to donate a ceramic bowl. At the Potters in Protest event visitors will choose a bowl and have it filled with a scoop of sweet sweet Messina ice cream. Each bowl and scoop will cost $30 with 100% of the proceeds donated to All Together Now, an NGO dedicated to promoting racial equality through education.

Over 200 ceramics have been donated from makers including Tantri Mustika, James Lemon, Mud Australia, Nicolette Johnson and so many more!

Although raising as much as possible is the ultimate aim for Potters in Protest, for Tara, this event is about a lot more. ‘While the money is obviously really important to All Together Now, I think the act of rallying as a community and taking a stand against racism is equally as important,’ she said. This is an amazing initiative – Sydney-siders, show your support this Sunday!
