The Italian coastline is home to some of the world’s most famous beaches. From colourful umbrellas, aquamarine water, and locals lazing in the sun, it’s hard to find a more picture-perfect setting — just ask Melbourne-based photographer Kate Shanasy.
Her latest photography series, ‘LEMON DELIGHT’, captures the idyllic beaches she visited last year on an ‘indulgent’ two-month holiday to Southern Italy.
Kate says she was instantly captivated by the extended sunsets and relaxed beachside lifestyle, which she’s tried to distil into 15 beautiful prints taken on the islands of Ischia, Sicily, and around the Amalfi Coast.
‘Inspired by a delectable, sweet treat discovered in Nerano on the Amalfi Coast, ‘LEMON DELIGHT’ is my tribute to summer inhibition; to beach holiday nostalgia bursting with zestful energy among moments of rest and limoncello-soaked solitude — quite like the lemony sponge dessert itself,’ Kate says.
An exhibition of her new body of work opens on Friday at event space MODULR in Clifton Hill, kicking off with an Italian-inspired party featuring a spread of Mediterranean food, limoncello spritzes, gelato from Pidapipo and DJs until 10pm!
The prints will be available to purchase on the night and in Kate’s online store, from this weekend.
See ‘LEMON DELIGHT’ from 6pm Friday February 16 – 2pm Saturday February 17.
