We’ve had our eyes on the Mitchelton Hotel, the sleek Hecker Guthrie-designed luxury accommodation in Nagambie, since its opening a couple of months ago. Their exciting new gallery space housing a large collection of Aboriginal art has now given us another BIG reason to visit!
An extension of the boutique hotel, the Mitchelton Gallery of Aboriginal Art is the largest commercial gallery for indigenous art in Australia. Featuring over 30 works representing more than 15 different art centres and communities, the gallery shows pieces from revered artists including Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, Michelle Possum Nungurrayi, George Hairbrush Tjungurrayi, Linda Syddick Napaltjarri, and Yannima Tommy Watson.
The gallery is situated on a culturally significant site in Nagambie overlooking the Goulburn River and seeks to pay its respects and homage to the traditional custodians of the land, the Taungurung people.
