Italian design house Mutina has long been admired for its experimental approach to ceramics, and now, its acclaimed Mutina Bricks range has arrived in Australia through Artedomus.

Renowned for collaborating with boundary-pushing designers and artists, Mutina approaches bricks not as building blocks in the background, but as an expressive architectural statement.

Think sculptural silhouettes, coloured finishes, and tessellated hit and miss brickwork that creates eye-catching walls or curving partitions.

It all started when the brand teamed up with famous Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola for a collaboration in 2014, opening up new conversations around space, light, and structure.

‘Mutina always looks to find a way to push ceramic material beyond its conventional functions,’ brand development manager Matilde Gandolfi says.

Much of Mutina’s brick products are produced using locally sourced clay from the Modena region of Italy, with extruded terracotta helping the team achieve its challenging geometries and new shapes.

Its latest designs include the Jali, a new design from Patricia Urquiola that draws inspiration from traditional Indian latticework; Brac by Natalie du Pasquier, a colourful, art-led system that’s available in four glossy glazes.

There’s also Hives by Konstantin Grcic, a highly flexible hexagonal module; and Renga by Vincent Van Duysen, a softly sculptural brick designed for partitions.

The range will be shown in Melbourne for the first time at Artedomus’ Expo ’26, opening March 5 at the Artedomus Galleria.
