It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with Melanie Cecilia Stapleton aka Cecilia Fox, who established her florist studio in Melbourne in 2007 before moving to Auckland, so we’re excited to celebrate the launch of her first book!

Pretty Dirty is no ordinary flower or gardening book — it’s a deep dive into the life cycle of flowers from creation to compost.

The book is a glorious ode to the life cycle of flowers covering how they’re grown; how to arrange them in beautiful, fresh and unique ways; and the inevitable decomposing and disposal.

The pages are richly illustrated, featuring stunning images of flowers in the wild. There’s also stylised images of compost and floral waste showcasing the full lifecycle and beauty of the floral world.

Throughout the book, Mel shares her tips and tricks learned from a lifetime spent with flowers, and stories from some of her favourite floral artists, flower growers, and those at the forefront of the ‘pretty dirty’ movement. Among the Australian floral folk featured are Kristy Tippett of Soho Rose Farm; Sophie Wolanski of Muck Floral; Azzmin Rayment of Braer; Katie Marx; and Shahn Stewart of Alchemy Orange.
