Behind every design piece, there’s a hidden story that plays a part in shaping the finished result.

This November in Sydney, Australian retailer Cult Design and global design brand GUBI are coming together to shine a spotlight on this all-important creative process in a new exhibition, GAMFRATESI: The Stories Behind the Icons.

The showcase will offer a deep dive into the work of GUBI and Copenhagen-based studio GamFratesi — helmed by Danish architect Stine Gam and Italian architect Enrico Frates.

Their partnership began with the release of the Masculo Chair in 2008, and the contemporary classic Beetle Chair a few years later.

These pieces, alongside further renowned collaborations of the Gent, Sejour, and the newly released Brim designs, form the heart of the exhibition, which takes a closer look at the journey from the first concept to the finished form.

Taking place at CULT Sydney from November 2-7, the showcase will feature early sketches, archival imagery, material references, development work and designer stories to reveal the thinking, experimentation and decisions behind the objects.

The exhibition offers a rare opportunity for local architects, interior designers and design enthusiasts to discover GamFratesi’s work up close and explore the stories behind some of their most celebrated designs.
