Schwartz Media, publisher of The Monthly and The Saturday Paper, has just launched a new podcast that is a total game changer for Australian news media. 7am is a daily podcast that covers timely news content from Australia and around the world in 12-15 minute episodes.
Unlike traditional methods of news broadcasting in this country, 7am takes a fresh, contemporary approach to audio storytelling, similar to that heard on massive American podcasts such as The New York Times’ wildly popular The Daily, that responds to the way people consume audio today, published in time for breakfast or the morning commute.
The creator and host of 7am is Elizabeth Kulas, a Peabody Award-winning Australian journalist fresh from New York City, where she’s worked with some of the world’s most renowned podcasts, including Reply All at Gimlet Media, Planet Money at NPR and WNYC. ‘I’m thrilled to be home in Australia exploring what a daily news podcast can be and do here’, Elizabeth says. ‘This is a new way of reporting the news, using the voice to tell, in detail, the stories that require our attention and which we most need to understand.’
Published every weekday morning at – you guessed it – 7am, the first episode launched this morning. This is an incredible feat for the Schwartz Media team, and takes Australian podcasting to an international standard!
To listen, visit 7ampodcast.com.au or search “7am” in your favourite podcast app. 7am will be available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify, as well as most other podcasting apps.
