Mirka For Melbourne – We Did It!

WELL, WHAT A WEEK it has been… After launching our Mirka For Melbourne campaign just over a week ago, today we wanted to share with you what we’ve been able to achieve thanks to your truly amazing support.

Through the incredible generosity of over 1,000 donors, we managed to raise a grand total of $203,850 – thank you, thank you, thank you!

Here’s a brief overview of just some of the key artworks, artifacts, and objects Heide Museum of Modern Art has been able to secure as a result of this campaign!

To put it bluntly, we’ve been completely overwhelmed by the response to our Mirka for Melbourne campaign. We really weren’t sure we would even meet our initial target of $100,000, but it soon became clear that the groundswell of love and affection for Mirka would bring this campaign home – and indeed it did!

It’s impossible to overstate the sheer power in numbers here; donations from $2 all the way up to $10,000 were received, along with countless comments and emails about Mirka and her incredible legacy. We’ve heard from children and adults with cheerful memories of Mirka, friends of the Mora family, local businesses and creatives keen to throw their support behind the campaign, along with a whole lot of people who were simply compelled to be part of this movement. It’s been truly remarkable.

In total, Heide was able to secure 31 important auction lots prior to the auction, and a further 12 significant pieces at the auction itself (only a small fraction of these are pictured here). Additionally, they were able to secure one key painting directly from the Mora family, and a huge archive of letters, sketchbooks and paperwork from Mirka’s archive.

Once the works arrive at Heide, they will be cleaned and conserved, before being displayed at the original farmhouse, Heide I. The house will be entirely given over to a Mirka display, so that the public can see them as soon as possible. This exhibition will be free of charge for visitors – we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s ready for viewing, and we look forward to seeing you there!

From all of us here at TDF, and on behalf of the team at Heide MoMA, we want to say the biggest THANK YOU!

Something extraordinary happened here, and it’s all thanks to you!
