Given overseas movement is likely to be restricted for some time into the future, it’s time to start brushing up on destinations closer to home. We can help you out in that department, because a brand new publication sharing stories for, from and about fellow nature-lovers has hit the shelves!

Walkers Journal is a quarterly print title showcasing the best local walks along Australia’s coasts, mountains and cities – from iconic bucket-list destinations to paths (literally) less travelled. Each issue will explore six walking routes from around the country through commissioned editorial and photography, with a focus on architecture, food, local geology, Indigenous history, and ecology. The print journal will be accompanied by a digital platform, which will run longform articles, photo series, audio visual tours and digital directory for regional treks.

Published independently by the Melbourne-based team behind green magazine, Walkers Journal will donate 1% of revenue to each Bush Heritage Australia and Country Needs People – a non-profit organisation supporting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander management of land and sea – alongside supporting the organisations’ initiatives in print. To make it all happen, the editors have launched a crowdfunding campaign for pre-orders, and have nearly reached their target! Help them out here. The full Walkers Journal website will go live in February 2021, and the first print issue is due to reach subscribers in March.

Australia has the most spectacular natural regions in the world (call us biased!) – now is a better time than any to get out there and see it!
