Step into a luminous world of creativity at 100 LIGHTS — a striking exhibition showing at Melbourne Design Week that celebrates the diverse talent of over 110 Australian designers, studios, architects and makers.

Presented by Friends & Associates, the exhibition transforms lighting from a functional object into a sculptural artform by bringing together an impressive cross-section of Australia’s design scene — from emerging talents to established names (including TDF favourites Coco Flip, Jordan Fleming, Tantri Mustika, Sundown and Ruby Shields — to name a few!).

With many pieces created by interdisciplinary teams, this exhibition celebrates the blurred lines between art, design and architecture.

You’ll find everything from the elegant mouth-blown glass work of Ross Gardam — whose ethereal chandelier was inspired by clouds — to Studio Co & Co’s timber, arts and crafts-inspired sconces and pendants.

Nicole Lawrence will be debuting Taff, the inaugural piece from her new lighting collection — a three-piece pendant made by resurfacing design elements from past decades and reimagining them for a new era, in collaboration with the talented Ruth Allen.

Whilst others looked to nature and science fiction in their designs — see Marta Figueiredo ‘Stardust’ lamp and Jay Jermyn’s ‘Gaurdian Sitael’ — furniture designer Adam Goodrum turned to the universally renowned analogue game ‘Hangman’ for inspiration. His playful lamp explores the simple and immediately recognisable geometry of this much-loved game.

Visitors to the exhibition are invited to slow down and engage with the textures, forms and brilliant ideas behind each design.
