Patricia Piccinini is an Australian artist in a league of her own, best known for creating life-size, hyperreal, disconcerting, yet simultaneously vulnerable, silicone sculptures. While these forms are instantly familiar, they are also completely unlike anything you’ve seen before. Their aim is to challenge the viewer’s acceptance of all things different. 

Patricia has been exhibiting internationally for 20 years, including at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, which Art Magazine recognised as the most daily-visited exhibition in the world that year. 

Showing until December 8th in Cairns is Life Clings Closest, a showcase of many Patricia’s career works, alongside new sculptures inspired by the unique Far North Queensland environment. These works highlight the ecology of the area while commenting on the overwhelming climate challenges it currently faces.
