Indulge in a delicious spectacle of art and food in Fitzroy this Sunday May 22 with fundraising exhibition, ‘Open Mess’.

Described as ‘an art feast for good’, the event brings together Melbourne’s best bakers and artists – from Bread Club to Florian, and TDF faves like Em Creasey and Gemma Leslie! And it’s all for a good cause, with proceeds going towards cancer and heart disease research.

See and bid on delectable, food-based art in a silent and live auction, featuring local artists such as Libby Haines, Alice Oehr, Billy Vanilli, Lauren Bamford, Archibald Prize finalist Zoe Young and more!

Plus, eat baked goods from Chic de Partie, Holy Sugar, Beurre, Saul’s Sandwiches, Honey Bunch of Onion Tops, Beautifulivy Sweet, Thy Caketh, accompanied by drinks from St Ali and Local Brewing Co.

Organiser Julie Blain set up the event as an inspiring celebration of two things Melbourne loves most; art and food, in tribute to her late-brother Alex’s battle with cancer.

‘”With cancer, food plays such a huge part in my life” were the words I’d often receive from my brother after a Peter Mac sandwich delivery from Neighbourhood Pizza and Doc Deli, or a cake from Julia Ostro,’ Julie says.

Alex was studying bio-medical engineering, with the goal to contribute to nano-robotics in cancer. It’s fitting, therefore, that all funds from the $20 tickets will go towards the University of Sydney’s Nano institute, who are leading the charge globally in their nano-robotic medical research.
