Open House is back across two weekends in November to celebrate the best of Tasmania’s architecture and design.
This year — in an Open House first — visitors will not only get to experience Hobart’s award-winning homes, but they are also invited to take a peek at historic buildings in the Southern Midlands.
More than 40 buildings in and around Oatlands, Dysart and Kempton will be open for visitors on November 1-2. These range from iconic and converted churches; colonial homesteads and cottages, including Oatlands 101, Petit Chateau, Raffah House, Lonsdale and Glebe House; plus a 1970s artist’s retreat in the hills of Mangalore.
Those visiting Hobart on the weekend of November 8-9, can look forward to seeing some Open House favourites, including Hampden Road House by Archier, The Boathouse by Maguire + Devine Architects, Blue Magnolia by Biotope Architecture and Interiors, and Fusilier’s Cottage by Bence Mulcahy — with more to be announced!
Open House Hobart co-producer Jennifer Nichols says, ‘more than just opening buildings, Open House will tell the stories of those who lived, worked and played in these spaces and places, and how they continue to tell the stories of the current custodians.’
The full program for both Open House Southern Midlands and Open House Hobart will be released on Monday October 6 (World Architecture Day). And, if the above line-up is anything to go by, this year’s program is not to be missed.
