Shelley Heaney has been working as a graphic designer for the last 20 years. Two years ago, her world was rocked when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. ‘Time stood still. I held my breath. Living became a privilege; an acutely intense and delicate place’, Shelley recalls of this deeply emotional period in her life. ‘In the uncertainty I found solace in nature. The Botanical Press was created, and Moments from Nature began’.

Taking inspiration from ‘mindfulness, changing seasons, and moving life cycles’ observed in nature, Shelley started an Instagram account where she documents a new moment of beauty from the natural world every day. Arranging botanical matter in kaleidoscopic formations, Shelley accompanies each post with delicate, poetic musings on life, and the search for meaning and clarity, encouraging us to ‘connect our daily lives to the living, and be in the certainty of stillness’:

‘Fading moments. Falling into the past. Your place only in dreams. Cold air in the breathing space.’

‘Grey clouds. Your shadow disappearing in the rain. Moments spent running for shelter. Smiling at strangers.’

‘Going boldly. You’re quick to turn back. Letting go. Becoming you.’

A selection of works from the Moments from Nature series are now available as limited-edition fine art prints, capturing botanical matter in exquisite detail. Every 100 days a new series of 10 will be released as editions of 10 on The Botanical Press. This project is a poignant reminder to connect and make the most of every little moment.

You can purchase Shelley’s stunning fine art prints at The Botanical Press (look out for a new series of cards in August!). Keep up with ‘Moments from Nature’ via her Instagram.
