Getting your start in a creative industry can be tough.
That’s why the Marten Bequest Scholarships have been offering young Australian creatives a financial boost since 1975 — in a bid to fund education, training, or travel (interstate or overseas) to help develop their artistic gifts.
This year, the scholarships will provide financial support for budding talents across disciplines of architecture, ballet, prose, sculpture, and singing.
Each of the six scholarships are worth $50,000, which the recipient will receive in quarterly instalments over two years.
It’s all thanks to John Chisholm Marten (1908 – 1966), who was born in Kent, England and moved to Australia at a young age. John Marten was a theatrical artist and well known for his appreciation and support of the arts community.
Any Australian citizens aged 21 – 35 can apply for the architecture, prose, sculpture and singing scholarships, while the ballet category is open to those aged 17 – 35.
All you have to do is submit an application through the Creative Australia website.
Applications close on February 4, so don’t miss out!
