Pauline Gandel is a philanthropic force to be reckoned with. Since 1978, she and her husband John have donated over $100 million, most recently supporting the National Museum of Australia for their Defining Moments Digital Classroom Initiative (plus their purchase of Reko Rennie’s beaut Bogong Moth).
Pauline is also proud to be the ‘glue’ that brings her family together – a grandmother and great-grandmother who strengthens bonds, shares knowledge, and gives love.
It makes perfect sense, then, that the Gandel family has partnered with Multicultural Museums Victoria (MMV) on Grandmothers, their first ever project across the Chinese Museum, Hellenic Museum, Islamic Museum of Australia, Jewish Museum of Australia and Museo Italiano.
On now through August and October, the exhibitions celebrate the strength, tenacity and significance of grandmothers in the family and wider community, as well as Victorian multiculturalism (so many reasons to add these to your weekend activity list!)
Mums and Dads, ArtPlay at Federation Square is giving your tikes the opportunity to go one step further and create a portrait of their grandmother – all they’ll need is the lady in question and her three favourite objects. Children will be guided to interview their grandmothers about each object, then integrate them into a drawing or painting to take home – or gift for nana’s mantelpiece!
