Great design requires the perfect balance of a number of different yet equally important elements. Does it do the thing it’s supposed to do? Is it comfortable and easy to use? Is it nice to look at?

Entrants to WORKSHOPPED 2018, an exhibition at the Australian Design Centre, were asked to consider all these factors in their response to the brief, ‘Fit For Purpose’. Forty-seven pieces across furniture, lighting, and objects were selected to represent the very best in contemporary Australian design, with pieces coming from both established and emerging designers.

The annual exhibition has showcased the over 450 designers over 17 exhibitions, seeking to mentor and support talent in Australian design. In addition to the main showcase, WORKSHOPPED 2018 will feature a number of additional events, including a tour by the exhibiting designers, a discussion exploring the in’s and out’s commercial practice, and a 3D Printing Workshop in the July school holidays.
