The Ian Potter Museum of Art will next week open an incredible new exhibition featuring the works of Clement Meadmore, one of Australia’s most influential and successful artists and designers. The exhibition is the first major survey of Clement Meadmore’s industrial design practice, spanning 1951-1963.
One of the most progressive designers of the modernist movement in Melbourne during the 50s and 60s, Clement produced an iconic collection of thirteen innovative modernist pieces known as the Meadmore Originals. Clement’s wildly popular furniture and lighting pieces completed the groundbreaking homes of Australia’s architectural elite like Robin Boyd, Neil Clerehan and Peter McIntyre.
The result of a decade’s worth of research by curators Dean Keep and Jeromie Maver, the exhibition provides an insight into the post-war design boom in Melbourne, and one of the seminal figures who helped shape the city into the thriving, cosmopolitan hub it is today.
