Melbourne will be the first city in the Southern Hemisphere to experience Random International’s game-changing installation, ‘Rain Room’. It’s opening in August as part of the Jackalope Art Collection in association with ACMI. Tickets to this spectacular experiential artwork will go on sale this afternoon (July 4th, 2019)!

First debuting in 2012, this immersive sound-and-light installation uses recycled water to create a 100-square-metre field of a constant rainstorm, where visitors can walk through the space untouched by the water falling around them. Three-dimensional cameras track movement, causing the rain to stop around the visitor and their path.

This extraordinary feat of art and technology has been experienced by over half-a-million people worldwide at some of the most prestigious art institutions across the globe, including The Barbican, London (2012); the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2013); the YUZ Foundation, Shanghai (2015); the LACMA, Los Angeles (2017); and at the Sharjah Art Foundation (2017).

March Studio has created a purpose-built Jackalope Pavilion on the corner of Acland and Jackson Street, St Kilda, to house the permanent artwork, featuring graphics by Studio Ongarato.

Ahead of the wildly popular Mornington Peninsula hotel’s opening in 2016, the Jackalope Art Collection was founded by Louis Li, a young hotelier with a background in filmmaking. The Jackalope Art Collection integrates transformative experiences into this unique hospitality experience.

As part of the opening celebrations, 80 people will have the chance to purchase tickets that include an exclusive preview of the world-renowned installation, plus an in-conversation discussion hosted by Virginia Trioli with Hannes Koch of Random International one of the artists behind this spectacular spectacle! First come, first serve!
