A colourful and exciting celebration of Aboriginal art and culture from across our desert regions is coming to Alice Springs (Mparntwe) this September!

Presenting Desert Mob is leading arts body, Desart, bringing together artists and stories from across the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia for one huge annual showcase. This year, the expansive program will feature 228 artists and 234 works from 32 different art centres!

The event kicks off with an online film festival from September 1. Watch these stories as they’re told direct from the desert with artists sharing their personal histories, lived experiences and creative practices. This story-telling provides insight into artists everyday lives and also the history and emergence of one of the most significant art movements.

Opening on September 8, the Desert Mob Exhibition, curated by Hetti Perkins and Marisa Maher will present hundreds of new artworks from emerging and established artists. If you’ve been looking for a beautiful (and meaningful!) piece to add to your collection, the works will also be available to purchase in-person and online from September 9 if you can’t make it to the NT.

Plus, there’s a marketplace happening on September 10 – spanning paintings, punu (woodcarvings), ceramics, Tjanpi weaving, sculpture, clothing, jewellery, textiles, and homewares from Aboriginal-owned art centres across Central Australia.

It’s the perfect chance to find something special for your home, while sharing in the art, stories and vitality of Aboriginal culture with a range of workshops and events taking place across Desert Mob’s Public Program. And, all funds from any purchases go directly to the art centres themselves!
