The First Nations artists of the Central Desert each have their own proud, rich and unique artistic styles that reflect the varying stories and traditions of this vast piece of land. This year, Desart’s completely online offering will explore this connection to Country through a program of films spanning four days, followed by a three-day digital marketplace.

The first event (Art Centres on Screen) is a series of 14 short films produced by Desart, featuring artists speaking from and about Country. Artists such as Reggie Uluru and Judy Yuka Trigger share stories about sacred sites, reflect on the creative process, remember significant events and family histories, and retrace traditional stories.

Four stories come from Kintore and Kiwirrkura – Papunya Tula’s remote art studios – and three from Walkatjara Art Centre at Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park.

An online art marketplace featuring a diverse collection of art centres (as well as those visited on film!) follows this screening event. From Tjanpi sculptures to ceramic pots, canvas paintings and works on paper, the offering showcases the breadth of talent and storytelling from this incredibly diverse part of the country.
