The new retail experience is located within The Malt Store — built in 1904 as part of the Carlton & United Breweries complex, the home of Carlton Draught — on Swanston Street.

Taking inspiration from Birkenstock’s iconic material palette, a patchwork of recycled timber features throughout the walls and display shelves, while a sculptural interpretation of the original cork footbed serves as a reminder of its over 250-year history.

Inside, customers are invited to browse a selection of signature silhouettes, including the Arizona, Boston, and Madrid designs, alongside seasonal collections and exclusive releases from the Birkenstock 1774 line.

However, at the heart of the store, there’s a dedicated repair workshop, where a worn-in pair of sandals can be stripped back, restored, and given a second life.

Their team of skilled technicians offer everything from heel replacements and buckle fixes to sole retreads and even footbed replacements. Not only does this unique offering showcase Birkenstock’s famed craftsmanship and customer service, but it sends a clear message that every pair of shoes you buy from the flagship are truly made to stand the test of time.
