SPRING1883 is returning in 2019, after its successful debut at The Windsor Hotel in Melbourne in 2014. After years of back and forth between the two cities, this time its Sydney’s turn, with The Establishment Hotel hosting the immersive exhibition from September 11-14th.

The luxurious CBD hotel will be filled with artworks from 26 contemporary galleries from Australia, New Zealand and the USA, and will be installed in the rooms, penthouse suite and gymnasium. This iteration of Spring1883 has a focus on emerging contemporary art spaces, and co-founder Kate Barber explains ‘we are committed to providing opportunities to younger galleries, and by presenting a fair-in-a-hotel environment we can keep our operational costs down and offer younger galleries a more affordable and accessible entry into the air fair circuit.’

Melbourne’s John Street Studios (founded by Pascale Gomes-McNabb and Dr. Terry Wu) are key contributors to Spring1883. The studios provide long-term affordable workspaces for twelve artists, the majority of whom do not have commercial representation. Pascale, a renowned architect and interior designer, has also curated the hotel suite.

Spring1883 was designed to provide a fresh, fun and accessible platform to exhibit established and emerging artists, as a ‘counterpoint to the often sterile and exhausting atmosphere of larger art fairs.’ Explore the sprawling and eclectic hotel, to encounter your new favourite artist!
