Since 1921, the Archibald Prize has provided a platform to show the skills of Australia’s artists, as well as tell a story of eccentric characters, famous faces, and quiet achievers. This year, TarraWarra Museum of Art has been announced as the exclusive Victorian tour venue for the shortlisted works in Australia’s oldest and most prestigious award.
Make a trip to the Yarra Valley to see the faces of actor David Wenham (painted by Tessa MacKay), Ahn Do (by George Gittoes), and Vincent Namatjira’s tribute to friend and fellow artist Tony Albert. The whos-who of notable Australian also includes journalist Annabel Crabb (by Jordan Richardson), writer Benjamin Law (by Keith Burt) and Bidjigal elder and artist Esme Timbery (by John Beard).
Take a tour through 51 faces of the nation from this weekend. With the winners already announced, see if you agree with the judges!
