It seems the moment you turn 27 people start telling you about your ‘Saturn Return’, a period of time where the Saturn reaches the same alignment as it was your year of birth. This period may last a few years and marks a cyclical closure – said to be a pivotal time for transitioning into full adulthood where we are faced with the challenges and responsibilities representative of a new life stage.

Melbourne-based artist Ajay Jennings explores this transformative phase in his exhibition, Saturn Returns, opening tonight at Gallery Boot in Fitzroy. Presenting a series of 15 framed works-on-paper, as well as a 70-page artist’s book,  these energetic, vibrant scrawls and paintings were created during Ajay’s 27th year. The exhibition delves into this ‘otherworldly pull over human psyche… exploring the challenges the tri-ringed planet is believed to have on young humans’, describes Ajay.
