It seems that everywhere we look these days, there’s a new and exciting Australian female artist bursting onto the scene. But on fewer occasions are a group of them in one spot.
A new group show titled Adoration at China Heights featuring local female artists Kitty Callaghan, Rachel Farlow, Eliza Gosse, Bridget Stehli Curnow and Ellen Virgona opened on Valentine’s Day. And the diversity of artistic mediums makes it even more exciting!
Through collage, painting, weaving, craft and photography the artists each explore bodyscapes and themes of abstraction, design history, architectural domesticity and gender. From kitsch woven rugs that subvert the male gaze to collages splicing found imagery with self-portraits, each of the mixed and diverse works examine beauty in playful but poignant places.
