Kip&Co Team Up With Australian Icon Ken Done For A Nostalgia-Filled Collection

Shopping

Growing up in the 80s, Kip&Co founders Alex McCabe, Kate Heppell and Hayley Pannekoecke saw Ken Done‘s vibrant artworks on everything from coaster sets to t-shirts and prints.

Now, they’ve teamed up with the iconic Australian artist for Kip&Co’s latest collaboration – marking the homewares brand’s 10th birthday!

The new collection brings Ken Done’s nostalgic aesthetic back into our homes, splashing his colourful, Australiana designs on beach towels, bedding, table linen and even bean bags.

Famous Australian artist Ken Done and Kip&Co have teamed up for a colourful and vibrant collection just in time for summer.

Kip&Co co-founder Alex McCabe says the idea behind the partnership has been almost a decade in the making, having dreamed of a collaboration with the prolific artist since she and friends Kate Heppell and Hayley Pannekoecke first started the local brand 10 years ago.

‘When Kate, Hayley and I grew up in the 80s, Ken’s art leapt off the walls and into our day-to-day lives, providing an incandescent backdrop to our most nostalgic, treasured childhood memories,’ Alex says.

‘This was the time when a Ken Done coaster set, t-shirt, or print became as ubiquitous with the Aussie home as the hills hoists that punctuated our back yards.’ They embraced his signature enthusiasm for colour and pattern ever since, which has ‘undoubtedly’ become one of their brand’s biggest in influences.

The Kip&Co team worked together with Ken to go through his enormous catalogue, narrowing down the artworks for the range, and spent time with him in his Sydney home.

‘It was so tough because Ken is really a prolific artist and he has so many incredible pieces, but ultimately we landed on a beautiful edit that showcases some of Ken’s most iconic subject matter,’ Alex says.

They settled on a collection of playful prints featuring Ken’s renditions of the Great Barrier Reef, yachts on Sydney Harbour, sunbathers on the beach and Australia’s beautiful flora and fauna. Some of our favourites from the range include the abstract and rainbow Little Tackers Tablecloth, the Beach Life Terry Beach Towel and all of the typography printed bedding, bursting with nostalgia!
