New Zealand sure punches above its weight when it comes to, well, almost everything, and their design industry is no exception. From fashion, to architecture, and lifestyle, we’re constantly amazed at the quality of products and projects this island nation produces…the only problem is, we can’t always get our hands on them!

The New Zealand Design Edit is bringing together a major showcase of New Zealand designers at David Jones especially for Australian shoppers open now until Sunday August 7. The special event features a curated edit of products available to shop in store, including brands never offered in Australia before.

Participating labels range from international successes (Kate Sylvester and Karen Walker among them) to up and coming talents such as ethical underwear label Nisa founded to provide people from refugee and migrant backgrounds with employment opportunities. Nisa is so proud of their team and manufacturing process that their Wellington workshop is open to the public, allowing customers to see exactly where and how their products are made.

The full in-store line-up of The New Zealand Design Edit is The Aromatherapy Co, Antipodes, Deadly Ponies, Saben, Yu Mei, Nature Baby, icebreaker, Rodd & Gunn, Kowtow, Kate Sylvester, Karen Walker, Hotmilk, Blunt, Nisa, Swanndri, Standard Issue, Duffle & Co, Edwards & Co, Huski, OKU, Barkers, and Max. Additional online-only brands are Meadowlark, Bennetto, Marle, Paris Georgia, and Wynn Hamlyn.

The New Zealand Design Edit is the first time David Jones has shone a light on NZ brands already in their store, as well as offering a chance for new brands to showcase the product as part of a focused campaign. The retail experience offers a tactile glimpse into the window of contemporary and sustainably led New Zealand design and builds on the success of the Discover New Chadstone pop-up store held in Melbourne last year.  This new luxe and exciting gallery space was created especially to host the brands, reflecting New Zealand’s rich design culture, colour, and textures.

The showcase is all thanks to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, the government agency charged with helping New Zealand businesses grow internationally.

Head to Level 8 of the flagship Elizabeth St David Jones store in Sydney for the full retail experience, including opportunities to meet the brand founders, or shop our favourite products online right here!
