Another day, another announcement!  Today we reveal our next TDF Collect exhibition, with one of our favourite local artists, Elizabeth Barnett.

We’re thrilled to host our third (!) show with Lizzie, entitled ‘BLUE‘. This show brings together 20 oil-on-linen still life paintings, in a spectrum of moody blue hues.

Please join us and Lizzie for the opening on Saturday, April 27th, with drinks from 2:00pm!

Sometimes we like to introduce new and undiscovered creatives, and at other times, we return to old favourites, whose careers we’ve followed and championed for many years. Macedon based artist Elizabeth Barnett falls into the latter category – an established TDF alumnus, whose career has been well and truly on the rise over the past few years.

BLUE is Lizzie’s latest body of work, featuring 20 oil-on-linen artworks in a spectrum of blue hues.

This exhibition marks a dramatic shift in Lizzie’s palette, and an embracing of simplified, still life compositions – a sort of ‘zoomed in’ aesthetic, in contrast to her more layered and complex interior scenes.

‘The paintings I made later in the series became less detailed, and more all over blue. I think these pieces really encapsulated what I am trying to say with this work’ Lizzie muses. ‘The paintings feel like a true immersion into a colour palette, a bit like submerging oneself in a cooling body water’.

The works also gently celebrate a sense of solitude and alone time. A female figure appears at the edges of some of the works, and as the subject of books open on the tables. Alongside these figures are handpicked foliage and flowers, a reoccuring motif in Lizzie’s work, emblematic of her daily experiences of life in Macedon, surrounded by nature.

‘I try to celebrate beauty in a time when there is much uncertainty and darkness’ Lizzie explains… ‘the changing climate, tense cultural conflicts, there is hope and light; there is a need to be moved by beautiful gifts of nature, of connection to it and to each other.’

Please join us and Lizzie, for the opening of Blue next Saturday, April 27th!

All the works in this show are now pictured on the TDF Collect website, and are available to purchase via email from today – enquiries, please email art@thedesignfiles.net.
