Robert Gordon · Feast Bakeware

After working with Robert Gordon Australia on a number of collaborations over the last few years, we’ve become firm friends with the Gordon family and their talented team.

We recently had the pleasure of collaborating with Robert Gordon once more, to produce this photoshoot featuring their brand new ‘Feast Collection’ bakeware range!  The collection is made all the more enticing with shots by amazing Eve Wilson, and food by Julia Busuttil Nishimura of Ostro – dream team!

BAKEWARE. Usually pretty unremarkable. I mean… bakeware is bakeware. It does its best work inside an oven. It’s not meant for the table, right?

WRONG.

What you actually need, for effortless entertaining, is bakeware that works for both baking AND serving. Oven-to-table – a revelation!

Robert Gordon Australia have created such a thing, and it’s a delight to behold. Their aptly titled new ‘Feast’ bakeware collection is an offering of 3 beautiful new baking dishes, a jug and a side dish / spoon rest, inspired by Robert Gordon’s early days as a studio potter.

‘One of Dad’s first big purchases when working from his tin shed in Gembrook over 40 years ago was a slab roller’ explains Kate Gordon, head designer and one of four siblings now at the helm of the family business. ‘He would make and model all his flatware out of slabs of clay – still with the canvas imprint.’

The new Feast Collection has been modelled in a similar way – though the production range is slip-cast, the prototypes for these pieces were made by hand using slab rolled clay.  ‘Dad worked closely with our very talented Italian Mould maker Glauco Urbanucci. Many prototypes were made, each with slightly different finishes and details. As a family, we then chose the details we loved the most. This was very much a collaborative collection, with Dad returning from semi-retirement to drive and direct the process’ Kate explains. ‘Reactive glazes that are half dipped add to the handmade feel.’

Though their Pakenham factory is at the heart of everything they do, these days, Robert Gordon Australia is both an importer and a manufacturer. The Feast Bakeware range is designed and prototyped in Melbourne, with production pieces manufactured at Robert Gordon’s partner factory in China. Carefully balancing their locally produced ranges with pieces manufactured overseas has enabled Robert Gordon to remain competitive, and meet wholesale demand for their most popular collections.

Next up for Robert Gordon is a major renovation at their factory and shop in Pakenham – they’re creating an in-house restaurant, and will soon be offering factory tours! ‘We are passionate about the craft of pottery, and hope to showcase our local production more and more at our factory’ says Kate.

The Feast Bakeware range will be available next month, for September delivery. You can pre-order pieces from the range via email here, or keep an eye on the Robert Gordon website and Instagram for updates.
