I can't actually believe I am writing this post. Reason being, I am desperately in love with TWO paintings featured in this post, which will be available at the amazing West Space gallery annual fundraiser in Melbourne opening TONIGHT, and I am seriously hoping to buy one. If not both. SO I can't actually believe I'm significantly reducing my chances of success by sharing them with you!
In all honesty, the West Space Annual Fundraiser is SUCH a great thing, it is definitely worth spreading the word! Founded in 1993, West Space is a not-for-profit art space run by artists for artists, which, amongst other things, offers a rent-free, independent exhibition space for local artists to showcase their work. By eliminating the usual fees and contractual obligations of artist / gallery relationships, West Space gives artists an incredible opportunity to control the way their work is presented to the public. After 21 year of operation, West Space is one of Melbourne's longest running artist led organisations.
In order to maintain their rent free exhibition spaces for artists, and to continue producing the various other projects and programs they are known for, each year West Space stages an annual fundraising exhibition.
'The West Space annual Fundraiser has been going for over 15 years.' explains Gallery Manager Christina Apostolidis. 'It is a curated exhibition, with works for sale of diverse size and medium, including sculpture, photography, drawing, painting and videos'. Prices range from as low as $5 through to $6,500, and are contributed by a wide range of emerging and established artists. Artists can choose to donate either 50% or 100% of the sale price.
This annual fundraiser is a great opportunity to pick up a relatively inexpensive work by an amazing line-up of artists all in the name of a great cause. This year the show includes works by over 100 artists including Kirra Jamison, Esther Stewart, Emily Ferretti, Emily Floyd and so many more!
