Some time ago we introduced the work of Melbourne maker Georgie Cummings, who makes a sweet little range of screenprinted and handstitched leather accessories from her home studio in Brunswick.
Georgie's latest collection 'Symmetry' is her most extensive yet, encompassing various coin purses, wallets, clutch bags, tote bags, tassels and leather jewellery, in a clean, elegant palette of buttery nude kangaroo leather, velvety black leather with metallic gold detailing. 'Symmetry is all about refining the core principles and ideas that helped build the previous collection' says Georgie of her latest range.
Georgie's little business has grown a lot since we first featured her. 'I'm learning, always' she says. 'I think I'm getting a firmer hold on what it takes to have my own business. I have a new found respect for any small business with a strong belief in well made goods'. This year Georgie has enjoyed meeting new stockists, speaking to customers, gaining feedback and working on a number of specially commissioned pieces. 'All this really helps to keep things ticking along, adding to my ideas, inspiration and giving me new perspectives – I love seeing how others appreciate and interact with things I've made, sometimes in totally unexpected ways!' says Georgie.
Georgie’s accessories are available from her online shop, and Dagmar Roussetamongst other stockists. She is also already looking ahead to The Big Design Market in Melbourne which she will participate in at the end of the year.
