BY GOLLY Melbournians, our appetite for vintage / industrial fossicking simply cannot be satiated. Just when you thought our stylish city had reached capacity for second hand treasure hunting opportunities, ANOTHER uptapped gold mine is uncovered. It seems we just can't get enough!
The newest contender in this category, Repop, opened in Kensington just last month, occupying an impressive ground floor space in the very amazing Young Husband Woolstore warehouse building. Proprietor Phillip Clarkson stocks an eclectic range of industrial furniture, antiques, vintage packing crates and signage, old toys and objects, all at refreshingly reasonable prices.
'I have always had a passion for salvage hunting, exploring old places for unique finds, and giving old items a new life' says Phillip. 'After selling as a hobby for a couple of years, I knew this was what I wanted to do. I love buying and selling – it makes me happy. I have been a printer all my life and was completely unfulfilled with my work. I didn’t want to be one of those people that said 'I could have done that' - I didn’t want to grow old wondering. So after much encouragement my wife and I started the design process for an online store, and I searched for a premises.'
After much searching, Phillip stumbled on his unique space in this iconic building. Though a lot of love was required to bring it up to scratch, Phillip knew it was perfect. At over 100 years old, with its exposed beams and no shortage of industrial character, this property certainly makes the perfect backdrop for Repop's nostalgic product range.
Repop are open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and other days by appointment. Much of Repop's product range can also be viewed and bought online.
