YES. It's true... after much 'will we or won't we' deliberation, it's official... The Design Files Open House will be happening again this year in Melbourne! Deep breaths. (me, not you).
As you know, The Design Files Open House represents the ultimate ‘Melbourne home’, with an added bonus – everything is for sale! From bedlinen to books, artwork, furniture and soft furnishings, everything in the house can be purchased on the spot.
This year we have 60 designers, artists and makers involved. It was a really difficult selection process as usual... there are lots of old faves in the mix, but lots of fab new things too. One brand new element is the location for this year's event. I'm super excited to announce that with the expert assistance of the very best location scouts in Melbourne (Grzan Squared I love you), we have found a new home in Windsor in which to stage our crazy event. Yes that's right, TDF Open House is heading South side!
Today you can browse The Design Files Open House website to see which wonderful brands, designers and artists are involved in this year's event! In the coming weeks, we will also upload a selection of product on the website, so you can see what goodies we'll have in store. (Unfortunately though, there will no online shopping this year).
Once again this year we have partnered with our pals at Jardan and Mini to bring this concept to life, and we are super grateful for their ongoing support! There's also one new event partner this year that we're SERIOUSLY excited to introduce - Marimekko! In case you haven't heard, the iconic Finnish design house will be opening flagship stores in both Melbourne and Sydney this November, and to celebrate their Australian launch, they've jumped on board as our third Major Event Sponsor for this year's Open House event. MASSIVE!
SO, dear readers. The next 7 weeks will be truly mad around here. We'll be ordering and receiving and barcoding stock. We'll be chatting with our favourite artists to commission the loveliest original artworks to complement each room. We'll be working with Jardan and Marimekko to get some fabulous colour-popping furniture and fabrics in the space. We'll be chatting to Market Lane about the coffee set up in this year's lush courtyard garden. We'll be working with our pals at Lettuce on the website and the clever gals at Ortolan on the printed collateral for the event. And we'll be working with The Project Agency to spread word of this year's event far and wide!
But YOU guys have only ONE TASK ahead. Simply put a note in your diary, and make sure you come visit us! That's all! We can't wait to get this show on the road!

ps) Sydneysiders, please don't hate me. I truly looked long and hard in Sydney for the right location to bring our event up to you... but sadly the perfect home (with willing homeowners!) just didn't materialise, and unfortunately our time ran out. :( Next year, fingers crossed, we'll make it happen!
