There’s nothing we love more than a creative collaboration around here, and right now we’ve got our eyes on Femme Fantasy, a new painted ceramics collection from ceramicist Alicia McVilly and artist Marisa Mu.

The pair, who met through working full time at the same artist studio, have long had a mutual appreciation for each other’s practices and processes, and cooked up the idea of joining forces on shared lunch breaks. The result is a collection of 22  ceramic vessels in soft, roly poly shapes thrown and crafted by Alicia painted with Marisa’s signature joyful, semi-nude dancing figures.

‘Playfulness and soft power are strong themes embodied throughout Marisa’s known style of work, and she was adamant on getting the best visual representation of her little naked dancers on the ceramic pieces’, Alicia says.

Over a three-month period Alicia experimented with different forms and glazing finishes as Marisa patiently learnt how to master painting with a new medium onto a variety of unconventional forms. All pieces have been glazed with a clear gloss on the inside, with a mix of both glazed and raw finishes on the exteriors.

When the collection was finished, Alicia and Marisa sat down together at a cafe to name each piece. With names like ‘From Venus’, ‘The Angel Collective’, and ‘Let Her Dream’, these pieces are an embodiment of femme empowerment. Each artist has pushed the boundaries of their own practice, coming together to create something beautiful and unique. We love to see it!
