Since she started her eponymous brand in 1998, Megan Park has been producing timeless, effortless womenswear and accessories to the same relentless fashion schedule followed by designers across the globe. But last year, everything changed. ‘It’s actually been really liberating’, says Megan, once the scary part was over for her team.
Pulling the handbrake on the seemingly unstoppable fashion machine gave her the chance to stop and reflect on over two decades of work.
Megan has kept one of every piece from every collection across womenswear homewares, jewellery and accessories over the last 22 years – which has amassed to some 10,000 pieces! Now, for the first time, ever, Megan is opening her archives to the public.
Each week on Tuesdays at 6pm, 40-50 pieces from the Megan Park archives are released on their website. The next day, they’ll be available to peruse in the iconic Gertrude Street shop, along with a selection of in-store exclusive archival pieces that are constantly changing and updating.
In each weekly drop there is a range of different sizes and styles. There’s only one of everything, and items can be exchanged for store credit if it doesn’t suit.
‘In 2020 we were able to more closely connect with our customers, and I just felt so much support for what we do’, Megan said. ‘It gave me the confidence to realise that we have a dedicated audience of people who want us to continue, and reaffirmed what we’ve always been about – producing beautiful, timeless pieces not dictated by fashion, that have integrity on the way they’ve been produced’.
As Megan slowly goes through the archives and assesses each piece, she is brought back to the exact moment they were created, as though in a time machine. ‘Everything has a story’ she says. ‘I want them to be worn and out in the world’.
The Megan Park archive is released online in weekly drops of 40-50 pieces on Tuesdays at 6pm. Find a frequently updated collection of archival pieces in the Megan Park Fitzroy store.
