There’s a lot to be inspired by in Issue 04 of The Design Files Magazine. If I were asked to sum it up in one word, I’d have to answer with three: make it work.

Not as a compromise, but as a creative act.

In Issue 04, we visit a clever couple who transformed a former warehouse entirely by hand — crafting their own lights and building a stainless steel kitchen for only $8000!

You’ll also find Beci Orpin’s beloved Victorian terrace. She and her husband Raph Rashid, have given their home of 18 years a long-awaited renovation, without expanding its footprint — proving good design isn’t necessarily about adding more, but working intelligently with what’s already there.

Not to mention the two beautiful and character-filled apartments that feel generous, despite their size; a serene shack renovation by Olaver Architecture that eschews architectural bravado; and a look into the changing reality of The Australian Dream.

Discover lamps that double as art, artist Fleur Harris’ fairytale front yard, plus we distil the latest interiors trend — new romanticism — and show you how to get the look.

Different stories, different circumstances — but a shared spirit of ingenuity runs through them all.

Issue 04 will be available in stockists from April 20, 2026!
