A Dreamy Bedroom Transformation By Lauren Li, With Bespoke, Locally Made Bedlinen

Abode Living has been operating from their Camberwell headquarters for over 20 years (you might recall we visited their impressive local manufacturing set-up last year). In that time, they’ve gathered a strong reputation for their incredibly high quality, Melbourne-made bedlinen and bedding. If you know, you know!

The best bit about making almost all their products in Melbourne, is that Abode are able to offer a totally bespoke service, offering custom bedlinen, bedding, table linen and soft furnishings for interior designers and special projects.

To fully explore this unique offering, we invited our resident interiors expert, Lauren Li of Sisalla, to commission custom King Sized linen for a freshly decorated bedroom in one of her recent projects. Lauren spun her magic– bringing luxe hotel-room vibes to this family home in Melbourne’s South Eastern Suburbs. See how she did it below!

‘As interior designers, our secret weapon is access to custom pieces,’ explains Lauren Li. ‘There is no shortage of products available online for our clients to choose from, but having something that is truly one-of-a-kind is pure luxury.’

It’s this ethos that carries through Lauren’s redesign of this beautiful bedroom in Melbourne’s South eastern suburbs, transforming it from a forgettable, generic room into a dreamy, hotel-like haven, using linen from Abode Living’s custom range.

‘We wanted the space to feel tranquil yet not bland, so we restrained the colour palette to warm beiges and soft terracottas,’ explains Lauren.

The bed in this large main bedroom is King Size – it’s a big presence in the room, so the linen needed to be perfect. Lauren was keen to combine both textured earthy fibres to complement the textures in the room, alongside a more luxe, sateen finish for comfort. She opted for a terra linen quilt cover that would tie in with the existing wallpaper and surrounding palette, alongside Italian sateen sheeting and pillowcases. The finishing touch  is a gentle scalloped motif on the pillowcases and flat sheet, that ties it all together!

‘We spoke to the team at Abode about creating a scalloped edge, and they were able to confirm immediately as their workshop is right upstairs above their retail store. There were so many embroidery thread colours to choose from!’

Lauren opted for an ochre-coloured thread that would tie in with the existing art wall, and pair beautifully with the terra linen quilt cover and wool blanket at the end of the bed.

‘We chose the white Italian sateen sheeting for the pillowcases, fitted and flat sheets for a silky feeling, which contrasts beautifully with the rawness of the linen,’ explains Lauren. The textured linen nods to the tactile essence of the seagrass wallpaper.

Tailoring everything by hand to the specifications and requirements of the designer, Abode’s custom service spans sizing, colours, materials, threads and more. ‘We have supplied customised pieces for beds in all conceivable shapes and sizes, for hotels, private planes and yachts.’ Says Amelia Adair, Abode’s Creative Director. ‘We also craft bedding for European beds or for larger sized American beds. We can work with all shapes and mattress depths. We love a design challenge!’

‘These days it’s about offering clients a truly unique design experience that they can’t get from shopping online,’ concludes Lauren. And a design service they can’t get from Pinterest!
