‘The house has great “energy” to it that everyone who visits gets immediately.’ – Barrie Delves

Almost 20 years ago, Carole and Barrie Delves and their children Briony Delves (owner of Society of Wanderers), and artist Prudence Caroline came across a large block in Jan Juc, and decided to turn it into their dream family home.

Having spent two decades on the Victorian Surf Coast already, the family were attuned to the town’s specific weather conditions, and channelled these into the home’s design.

‘We had a good understanding of what was required to be sheltered from the cold, winter south-westerly winds, yet still maintain a high degree of comfort,’ says Barrie.

Aesthetically, the couple were inspired by mid-century design, which gives the home a timeless look and feel. (As evidenced by the fact the house has barely aged a day in its 20 years!)

‘The only real update to the original design has been a total revamp of the kitchen with the assistance of Rebecca Jansma from Space Grace and Style, and changing the floors from jarrah to oak,’ explains Barrie.

The kitchen’s nature-inspired olive green cabinetry and alluring marbled bench tops pair beautifully with the soft linen curtains and locally-sourced stone hearth in the adjacent living space.

Barrie loves the seamless transition from the living room to the outdoor deck, followed by the solar-heated and self-cleaning pool. A separate pool room with an open fire, kitchenette and powder room makes this an ideal spot for entertaining.

A further outdoor space can be found upstairs off the main bedroom suite that occupies the entire floor, and in the front yard featuring veggie gardens.

‘The house has great “energy” to it that everyone who visits gets immediately,’ Barrie says.

Carole and Barrie are now looking for a new project, which means their beloved family home is for sale for the first time. They’ll miss the peace and quiet of the cul-de-sac property, and hope new owners will cherish it for years to come.

20 Delview Drive, Jan Juc, Victoria, is being sold by Lynne Hayden and Suzy Jones at Links Property Torquay via private sale. For more information, see the full listing here
