Late last year we first ran a little story about fabulous local business Retro Print Revival. From her studio in Brunswick, Melbourne, designer Tamara Watts creates a spectacular range of lamps and lampshades using an impressive library of retro-inpired fabrics. With a background in visual merchandising and interior decoration, Tamara draws inspiration from mid century design to create her unique lamps, pairing the boldest of prints with each carefully selected base.
Though many of her lamp bases are vintage pieces, Tamara also works with local makers to create new timber lamp bases - and she's pretty chuffed to launch a brand new design this month. The 'Electra' lamp base is her first ceramic/wood combination lamp base and has been a year in the making. Working closely with a local ceramicist and woodturner since the start of this year, Tamara is thrilled to finally offer this elegant lamp base as part of her core collection.
'The Electra Lamp is influenced by mid-century design' says Tamara. 'I’ve watched a lot of Mad Men (!) and I have a huge appreciation for interiors of this era' she explains! 'The three glaze colours were easy to choose: a classic, grazed turquoise, a simple white, and of course, GOLD!' To accompany this new piece, Tamara has also introduced some understated, plain fabrics to her range for the first time - a thick textured canvas and raw silk, typically seen on lampshades of this era.
The Electra table lamp joins Tamara's existing best selling Rocket Lamp and Disc Lamp bases, which are all hand-crafted locally from Tasmanian Blackwood. Due to its unique combination of handcrafted timber and ceramic, the Electra is priced from $445, although many of Tamara's other designs start at $270. They're all available now from Retro Print Revival's colourful online store, or from stockists nationally listed here.
