I have a soft spot for Melbourne crafter Madeleine Sargent aka Made by Mosey. Her cheerful creations always have an authentic 'hand made' quality to them, and she's always inventing new things I haven't seen before!
Madeleine has recently launched a brand new range of cushions and decorative handcrafted homewares. Entitled 'ALL IN', this bold range is inspired by geometric patten, colour blocking, monochromatics and patchwork, and includes a bunch of colourful fruit-inspired cushions and a series of faceted diamond-inspired wall hangings. Though it retains Madeleine's signature cheerful and childlike aesthetic, the range definitely has grown up appeal too - we particularly love that Eye Cushion!
Madeleine explains that 'ALL IN' presents a bit of a new approach for Made by Mosey. 'Usually I develop a new design and then add it to my existing products, but this year I decided that for the first time since I started my business, I would create a collection and launch it all in one go' says Madeleine. 'It was definitely a steep learning curve, and took much longer than I imagined!'.
Madeleine is a measured and thoughtful maker. Her creative process begins with a lot of thinking and experimenting. 'Nothing is original, it’s true, but I spend a long time at the beginning of each product looking at how I can interpret things in a new and fresh way' she says. From there, samples are sewn, unpicked and reworked over and over until they look ‘just so’. Then, and only then, does Madeleine seek the opinion of her husband, best friends and kids! 'Amongst this gang of mine is the perfect mix of honesty and great taste' says Madeleine, adding 'if everyone’s on board then I get on with the actual production!'.
Made by Mosey products are available from Madeleine's cute online shop here, and at stockists nationally listed here.
