Booki.sh is a brilliant new web platform (I think that's what it is?) which is something like a library in a cloud! Booki.sh allows you to buy ebooks online, store them in the virtual Booki.sh library, and read them either online or offline in a smartly designed Booki.sh reader on your laptop, iPad, iPhone, Blackberry etc. AMAZING.
I must ADMIT I do not quite understand everything Booki.sh does yet. I only just signed up yesterday! What I do know, is three very awesome things -
1) EVERYTHING about Book.ish is well designed. From the identity to the website, illustrations and the ebook reader... it all just looks GREAT.
2) Booki.sh is made by a DREAM TEAM of local creative people! It is the creation of Melbourne web wizards Inventive Labs. The Booki.sh website was designed by Virginia Murdoch with wonderful illustrations by local illustrator Lachlan Conn of the Jacky Winter Group, and the Booki.sh identity, (a pair of nerdy GLASSES, so perfect!) is by the very clever Suzy Tuxen of A Friend Of Mine. What an awesome local design team. Makes me wanna just high-five each and every one of 'em.
3) Booki.sh currently has one retail partner - much-loved local bookseller Readings. No 'faceless robot armies' here. SO you don't even have to feel bad for buying your books online! Other independent book retailers will be added to the roster in the coming months!
Sign up (free!) and support this lovely local venture here! How great for KIDS too! (assuming you trust them with your iPad).
