After seeing this Mornington Peninsula beach house in a 2022 feature on The Design Files, homeowner Vicki fell in love with its ample space, light-filled living areas, and growing garden.
Remarkably, it’s the third property she’s purchased after discovering it on TDF.
‘I loved the architecture and its many unusual features, along with the fact that a young garden was in place. It offered me an opportunity to work within the framework, adding to and making it mine,’ Vicki says.
The previous owners — an interior designer and a builder — renovated the 1960s home in 2016 after recognising its potential, despite its practically uninhabitable state and original plans for demolition.
They approached the transformation with particular care and thought, creating a home that remained just as inviting seven years later when the couple put it on the market. For Vicki, who was looking for a place that was ready to live in, it was perfect.
‘Luckily for me, all the hard work had been done, so I have had plenty of time to garden and explore the Peninsula,’ she says.
The home’s natural light was also a massive drawcard.
‘Having lived in Queensland for over 20 years, I am always looking for a spot in the sun,’ Vicki says. ‘The sun moves around the house all day, so it’s coffee out the front in the morning and drinks on the back deck in the evening.’
Much of the allure of owning a house by the beach comes from having space for visitors and entertaining, and this home’s five bedrooms have been perfect for Vicki whose three children often visit with their partners and her four grandchildren.
Having made the difficult decision to sell, Vicki says she’ll miss the home’s location — just one block from the bay, with farms, bakeries, a pool and spectacular walks on its doorstep — as well as the ease of living it offers.
‘It has a great flow with a focus on the garden and light,’ she says. ‘It is a happy house to live in, and I couldn’t ask for more.’
