Looking at images of the Joyne showroom, one could easily mistake it for a private home.
The Malvern showroom was intentionally designed with a residential look and feel to reflect the ethos of the three brands it houses: R&Co.Design.Studio and WLKR Studio and their collaborative custom joinery arm, Joyne.
Rachel Collard, founder of Joyne and R&Co.Design.Studio, explains, ‘Our expertise lies in residential design, and we wanted the showroom to reflect the way we approach homes, with a focus on warmth, functionality, materiality and how people genuinely live.’
Comprising multiple rooms, the building offered the design team the chance to showcase different moods and moments, including a large family kitchen on entry, a second smaller kitchen design to inspire compact spaces, cosy lounge area, and bathroom.
In collaboration with Arch Melbourne, furniture was considered from the outset, working to define zones, enhanced by a bold use of colour: blue in the main kitchen across the joinery and marbled stone, maroon in the compact kitchen, and pink with red accents in the bathroom.
A layered palette of natural stone, timber veneers, textured laminates, steel, and glass creates warmth, depth, and a sense of timelessness throughout.
‘The result is a space that feels bold enough to be memorable, yet approachable enough to resonate with a broad audience,’ says Rachel.
The blue kitchen creates a striking moment on entry, before the cosier lounge (often described as a ‘warm hug’) and the playful bathroom reveal themselves as the space unfolds.
A visit to the Joyne showroom feels like stepping into the founders’ home, facilitating a relaxed environment for clients to touch and feel materials in a real-world setting.
Rachel says, ‘Our hope is that every person who walks through the door leaves feeling inspired, comfortable and connected to the experience we’ve created.’
