Fleur Glenn has lived on the same block in Clifton Hill for more than three decades, across many different evolutions of the property.
In 2016, she decided to downsize. But rather than moving away, she subdivided the inner-city site and engaged local architect Murray Barker to design a one-of-a-kind dwelling that’s since become known as ‘The Tree House’.
We even visited Fleur shortly after the enchanting home was complete about six years ago for a tour.
Fast forward to today, and she’s decided it’s time to part with the much-loved abode at 2a Fenwick Street to explore a new neighbourhood.
‘Murray designed the house to fit amongst the trees, so the footprint is irregular and interesting, with new things to discover at every turn,’ Fleur says.
‘When I sit in my study upstairs, I look right into the branches of the biggest gum tree, and I feel I can almost touch the birds who sit watching me write. It is known around Clifton Hill as The Tree House and that is exactly what it feels like.’
Builders Sanctum Homes also worked on the three-bedroom home, which features an expansive timber deck, leafy landscaping, and a freestanding studio.
Inside the sculptural exterior, walls and ceilings alternate between crisp white plasterboard and silvertop ash panelling for a warm and cosy atmosphere.
The living spaces on the ground floor feature floor-to-ceiling windows and ample open shelving — giving Fleur dedicated spaces to showcase her extensive collection of books and ornaments. Upstairs, the bedroom is linked to a sunny balcony and an en suite.
‘There are so many things that I love about this house; the wide outdoor deck downstairs where I can have friends to eat dinner outside; the chain from the upstairs spouting where the rain runs down in storms; the skylight over my bath where I lie watching the moon,’ Fleur adds.
‘One of my favourite things is the round window up the stairs that frames the dark trunk of one of the eucalypts. I look out this window every night as I walk up to bed and think how lucky I am.’
Now, the charming treehouse is on the market for the first time!
2a Fenwick Street, Clifton Hill, VIC 3068 is listed for sale with Andrew Simondson and Julie Susnjara from Jellis Craig and will go to auction on Saturday November 15 at 10:30am.
