How I Host

The best Airbnb stays are all about the guest experience—something Peter Clarke and Charlie Ebell have down to an exact science at their accommodation, The Little Seed, in Tasmania’s Huon Valley.

Since welcoming its first guests 12 months ago, the property has achieved unanimous five star reviews for its cosy interiors, natural surrounds, and meals personally prepared by Charlie who is a former chef and owner of multiple cafes.

It’s these details that set The Little Seed apart, resulting in Peter and Charlie taking out Best New Host at the 2022 Airbnb Host Awards!

Peter Clarke and Charlie Ebell owned multiple hospitality businesses across Queensland, Victoria, and New South Wales before trading it all in for a life in Tasmania.

They purchased a 20 acre property in Franklin—a small town in the Huon Valley about 40 minutes from Hobart—where they now invite guests to stay in their Airbnb accommodation, The Little Seed

When Peter and Charlie purchased the land in 2021, they inherited a simple unit with a shed exterior. They engaged builders Ishmael and Noah Goundry to completely strip back the structure, transforming it into a bespoke studio using recycled Tasmanian timbers.

Inside is now a modern kitchen, fireplace, bathroom, and a generous bedroom next to the romantic freestanding bath. Corrugated iron internal walls pay homage to the original shed, while the exterior is clad raw local oak timber to replicate the look of classic apple sheds throughout the Huon Valley.

The surrounding property is integral to the experience. Guests can enjoy views of the nearby lake and boardwalk, explore bush tracks down to the creek, and wander the property’s one-acre permaculture garden.

The cherry on top of a stay at The Little Seed is a meal prepared by Charlie using produce from this onsite garden. This add-on service is offered to all guests, many noting it as the highlight of their stay.

Peter and Charlie say it’s these little things that guests most remember from their stay. The proof is in their glowing reviews, and being named Best New Host at the 2022 Airbnb Host Awards

Peter and Charlie’s Top Tips For Hosting the Ultimate Airbnb listing
