Before + After: An Arty + Eclectic Kids Bedroom Transformation

One Room Wonders

It’s that time again… we’re back with another One Room Wonders room transformation, in partnership with Surround by Laminex.

For our latest project, we transformed a basic kids’ bedroom into an arty, eclectic space, full of cheerful colour and pattern!

We started wth the Surround by Laminex Classic VJ 200 profile, which is a traditional V-groove wall panelling, with 20cm wide panels. This versatile timber panelling adds instant character to any space, but is especially well suited to kids spaces, because it’s so robust and hard wearing.

All Surround by Laminex wall panelling comes pre-primed and ready to paint. Here, we selected a buttery yellow colour to really brighten up this room, and bring sunshine into the space! We used a paintbrush to paint along each V-groove, before applying two coats of paint to the surface of the panels with a roller.

Customisation is all about making a space feel unique and personal. In this room, we had curtains custom made by Zenn Design, using Warwick Fabrics Davina Linen in colour ‘Cotton’, with contrast band in colour ‘Wheat’.  The contrast panel at the bottom adds a fun, playful touch.

Adding a custom bedhead is a great way to elevate the look and feel of any bedroom, without having to replace the whole bed. We chose a semi-circular upholstered bedhead by Zenn Design, using Davina Linen from Warwick Fabrics once again, this time in ‘Rosewater’. It’s the perfect ‘not-too-pink’ pink!

One the furniture and fixed elements were in, we layered the space with a gorgeous edit of soft furnishings in a pretty palette of yellows and pinks from local brands including Sheet Society, Bonnie and Neil and Castle.

To finish the look, we added artwork – including kids’ paintings! I had some of my daughter’s drawings printed onto white canvas (thankyou Crumb Kids) and stretched them over small canvas frames purchased from an art shop. Arranged in a cluster, this sweet little collection of artwork really pops on the panelled walls.

And that’s it! A pretty-as-a-picture little girl’s bedroom, full of colour, pattern and personal touches.

Surround by Laminex is a range of modern, pre-primed MDF wall linings, available in a great range of both classic and contemporary profiles – ready to paint. View the full range here, and start reimagining your space!
