The owners of this Balmain abode owned the block for seven years before embarking on the build of what they thought would be their forever home.
Even as a vacant block of land, 1 Carieville Street had an unbeatable waterside location just 100 metres from the Balmain Marina. The owners knew it had untapped potential and engaged the help of TW Architects to create their brand-new home a few years ago.
Their ambitious four-bedroom build required a substantial excavation to accommodate a lower ground gym, media room, steam room, and games room, designed with the couple’s two sons in mind. Other luxury additions included the impressive outdoor entertainment area with a pool and gardens, reminiscent of a luxury resort!
‘The intent was to create a seamless interaction between the ground floor living spaces and the backyard to connect to the generous pool, garden and cabana areas,’ the owners say.
The home’s three-level floorplan now makes the most of the property’s waterfront views, captured perfectly from the main bedroom’s windows and balcony. Inside, Nina Maya Interiors helped curate a ‘luxurious but pared-back’ palette of travertine limestone, timber, and bronze details throughout, which completed the property’s idyllic beach house vibe.
‘We love the early morning sun that pours into the living spaces,’ the owners add. ‘As the sun tracks along its northern path, the backyard and pool areas are bathed in sunshine most of the day, and the sunsets in the front yard looking across the river towards Hunters Hill are just magic.’
The sweeping home fit the young family of four perfectly, purpose-built with various personalised zones. But after just 12 months in the property, the owners have their sights set on a new project: a renovation on the other side of Balmain.
‘[If not] for the unique opportunity we are pursuing, we would have stayed here forever,’ they say. Their move means there’s a unique opportunity for house hunters here too – to purchase a true Sydney dream home, that’s move-in ready!
1 Carieville Street, Balmain is listed with Andrew Liddell and Adrian Oddi at BresicWhitney Balmain and will go to auction on Wednesday 17 August at 4:45pm.
