A Serene & Stylish Sitting Room Transformation

We’re back with another gorgeous, achievable room transformation today in partnership with Surround by Laminex – and boy, this one is GOOD!

We recently took up the challenge of reimagining this simple art deco sitting room – adding an injection of colour and texture to the space. The results speak for themselves!

For this room, we selected Surround by Laminex Battan 25mm panelling, which is a slim, delicate profile with a contemporary edge. With its narrow panels and sharp, square grooves, this is a versatile profile that complements the heritage features of this room, whilst also lending a modern touch.

Whilst we love the art deco details in this room, the existing picture rail was very low on the wall, which made the space feel small. So, as you’ll see in the video, we removed the picture rail, taking the panelling right up to the ceiling, to enhance the ceiling height and make the walls feel tall again!

We really wanted to add some richness and warmth to this room. The best way to do that? With colour! We settled on a tonal palette of deep blush on the walls, layered with terracotta, red and burgundy accents throughout the space.

All Surround by Laminex timber panels come pre-primed and ready to paint. To ensure good coverage in all the grooves, we pre-sprayed these panels with one coat of paint prior to installing them. Once on the wall, we gave them a second coat with a roller. To tie everything together and ensure consistency with the rest of the house, we kept the skirting boards, cornicing, window and door frames in their original warm white.

When it came to furnishing this space, we wanted an eclectic edit of furniture, lighting and objects that was a little bit lux – but also very textural. We loved most of the existing vintage furniture in the space, but added to this with a few new contemporary design pieces (hello dream armchair) – and one seriously show-stopping rug!  For the final finishing touch, we brought lamp lighting into the space, to give the room a cosy, inviting atmosphere. What a transformation!
