We’re excited to launch something new today – this is One Room Wonders!

In this fun new video series, we’ll be sharing a bunch of gorgeous, achievable room transformations, in real homes – in partnership with Surround by Laminex.

Surround by Laminex is a new range of modern, pre-primed MDF wall linings, available in a great range of both classic and contemporary profiles – ready to paint. Over the course of this series, we’ll show you just how versatile and transformative this wall panelling can be.

First up is our contemporary chic bedroom makeover.  We took up the challenge of updating a simple, sparsely decorated main bedroom – adding colour, texture and a few lux details to really elevate the space.  It’s a simple transformation, but it really packs a punch!

The hero here is a custom made headboard, using Surround by Laminex Demi Round 40mm panelling. This sleek, scalloped timber profile is classic yet contemporary, and adds interest and texture to the room, without overwhelming the space. We built a simple headboard with a ledge to really elongate the wall behind the bed, and streamline the space – and we painted it two shades darker than the walls (use a thick, fluffy roller to really get into the grooves!).

This bedroom was a simple, sparsely decorated space with great bones. Existing wall colour – Dulux Dieskau. Photos – Eve Wilson, Styling – Annie Portelli.

A built in headboard is designed to replace your own bed-head – so we’ve paired this with this a simple, affordable bed base to reduce bulk, and really let that demi-round panelling shine!

On the bed, we opted for lots of texture in a tonal palette of blues, with a mix of natural linen, velvet and printed scatter cushions, and an oversized quilted bedcover that skims the floor. We’ve retained the existing bedside tables, but to avoid a ‘matchy matchy’ look, we went for mismatched bedside lamps, and a smattering of beautiful ceramics and design objects to really make the most of the new ledge above the bed.

When it comes to hanging artwork in the bedroom, keep it fresh! Rather than hanging a painting centrally above the bed, try placing it slightly off-centre, for a lighter, more contemporary look.

Finally, we felt this room had a couple of dark corners that weren’t getting much use, so we injected some new energy by building a simple banquette seat using offcuts from our demi-round panelling – this cute little seat is a great use of that tricky spot beside the mantlepiece. Elsewhere, we added a chic, floor-length mirror, and a nice big armchair and lamp to create  a cosy reading nook.

Have we inspired you to re-imagine your bedroom? It’s easier than you think!
